Flamenco 5, slim and imposing is her appearance
Very few people have their own music room for their music playback, so consideration must be given to the space in terms of design and size. Setting up bulky speakers in the living room is not everyone's cup of tea, and yet there is a desire for dynamic bass sound.
This resulted in our task, namely to develop a slim and yet imposing loudspeaker. The Flamenco 5 is not only a feast for the eyes, it is also convincing in terms of sound.
We have installed the chassis of the reference series in all Flamencos so far
Thus, we remain true to the Paper reference drivers also with the Flamenco 5. They offer a top price-performance ratio. The good paper diaphragm provides a warm sound and the black Phase Plug not only looks good, but also does not restrict the housing design in terms of choice of colors. Phase Plug aficionados also swear by the good heat dissipation, maximum cone excursion, and associated higher sound pressure.
Compared to its smaller sister, the Flamenco 2, the Flamenco 5 has two more drivers. While the Flamenco 2 is driven by one bass-midrange driver, which is jointly responsible for the midrange and bass, the Flamenco 5 has two bass drivers and two midrange drivers. Thus, each chassis can play in its parade discipline.
Of course, the tweeter ribbon should not be forgotten. The Neo 3 is still one of the best ribbon tweeters in its class.
The symmetrical arrangement of the speakers, also called "Full D Appolito arrangement", is the icing on the cake and benefits the harmonious bass distribution in the room.
Crossover development without compromise
Even if prices on the raw materials market are exploding, we don't want to give up the quality of the components. Because for us and many high-end manufacturers, analog crossover components are still the royal road of speaker development, especially since we can simply produce any necessary intermediate value.
A DSP variant for the Flamenco 5 would certainly also be conceivable. However, with the necessary number of channels including double bass equipment, this would be an expensive undertaking and would drive up the kit price. The Flamenco 5 crossover also works with a small number of components and fulfills its goal perfectly for the targeted budget.
Measurements
How much self-build should be?
1.) Preferably build everything yourself.
The prerequisite is that you have the appropriate tools, perhaps even a small workshop. At least a router and table saw should be in your possession. This is worthwhile again, if you want to realize other projects in the house.
2.) Front baffle ready, all other blanks from the hardware store.
You don't have a router and order the front panel including the recessed cutouts together with the technology kit. The remaining cut-outs for the bass reflex tubes and pole terminals can also be made with a jigsaw.
3.) Order complete blank with
You order the complete housing kit as a cut to size. Advantage: less ways, less time, less dust and the miter cuts for the housing cover are already available. Or, if the living space situation does not allow it, you can build your Flamenco 5 yourself with the finished wood blank and do not have to give up the joy and the euphony.
Little tip
Ponal Express Pur filler fills all miter cuts that have small gaps and can be sanded like the wood.
Assembly Flamenco 5
Install the crossover and solder it to the drivers.
Put the damping material into the cabinet.
Mount the binding posts and plug in the bass reflex tubes.
The Flamenco 5 is ready.
Your cabinet finish creates an individual speaker ...
... that bears your signature and stands out completely from the mass market.
For our Flamenco look, we used a gray primer and covered it several times with a clear boat varnish. I would say the experiment was a success.
Conclusion
The Flamenco 5 copes very well with different amplifiers. It does not necessarily need an expensive amplifier, but has been tuned for a wide range of amplifiers.
For a medium-sized room, the Flamenco 5 is a clear sound recommendation in its class.
The spatial imaging is excellent, its dynamics, its richness of detail and the beautiful bass distribution make the Flamenco 5 a special pleasure.
